About Us

Dedicated to delivering a first class client service

Haslehursts was established in 1980 and today we have a team of 15 partners and staff. We continue to build on our enviable reputation for providing excellent advice and first class service to our business and personal clients alike. We have more than 1,000 clients in the local community and service businesses, small and large, across many sectors including:

  • The Professions
  • The Service Sector
  • The Construction Industry
  • Manufacturers
  • Retailers
  • Specialist Sectors such as Clubs, Charities, Pension Schemes & Trade Bodies

As well as general accountancy, audit and tax skills, we also have individual specialist skills which enable us to provide clients with a first class service as and when required. With our wealth of experience we pride ourselves on delivering an unparalleled service to all clients, whatever their size or sector.

In addition to traditional auditing, accounting and tax services we also provide advice on how to improve and develop your business. Whether you need an integrated business strategy, access to corporate finance or specialist tax advice we are here to help you achieve your goals.

Being a family firm, we pride ourselves on our ability to really look after our clients. Unlike many other firms who charge by the hour, we are happy to quote you a fixed fee for all agreed services and ad hoc advice. We find that our clients much prefer this, as they can feel free to call us for advice at any time without the fear of a hefty bill for the pleasure! Also, whilst we employ a highly qualified staff of chartered and certified accountants, because of our lower cost base our fees are typically less than half those of the bigger accountancy firms.

A brief overview of our partners and principal staff is given below:

Bill Haslehurst FCA

Bill set up the practice in 1980. He took his articles a long time ago with Whinney Murray (now Ernst & Young), working in Birmingham, London and Saudi Arabia, before joining Thomson McLintock (now KPMG) in 1977. Bill is very much a hands-on general practitioner with considerable experience across all disciplines of the profession. If he doesn't know the answer he knows a man who does! Bill likes to attend courses (of the golf variety!) and he has been known to enjoy the occasional pint over the road in Flints Wine Bar.

Tom Haslehurst ACA

Tom qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen in 1997, gaining extensive experience of accounting, audit and corporate tax matters. He then spent 4˝ years as a manager with KPMG Corporate Finance, advising large and small clients on buying and selling businesses and raising finance, before joining Haslehursts in 2002. As well as looking after clients' general accountancy, audit and tax needs, Tom is keen to help clients grow and become more profitable and can offer specialised corporate finance and financial due diligence services to help these goals to be achieved. Tom's extra-curricular interests include golf (at which he is truly awful) and football (Tom and Bill are both long-suffering Derby County fans).

Andrew Haslehurst FCCA CTA

Rew started off his career in accountancy with Haslehursts in 1997, before moving to Kidsons Impey where he qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2001. He gained great experience in accountancy, audit and tax and moved to specialise in corporate tax when Kidsons merged with Baker Tilly. He spent three years in London as a tax manager for Baker Tilly and qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 2005. Rew returned to Birmingham and Haslehursts in June 2006 and is now one of only a handful of Chartered Tax Advisers practicing in Sutton Coldfield. Rew enjoys playing and watching football (he is another Derby fan).

Graham Cowley ATT

Prior to joining the practice in 1996, Graham was Senior Tax Manager at Deloitte and Touche where he had worked with a broad personal tax client base since 1963. Graham continues to deal with personal tax clients, ranging from one-man self-employed businesses to large partnerships and wealthy private clients. He has extensive knowledge of income tax, capital gains tax, trust tax, trust administration and probate work. He also deals with estate planning. Graham, in his youth, was a keen footballer, using his impressive pace to fly down the wing. He still has a strong relationship with the Birmingham PFA, counting a number of professional footballers among his clients.

Tony Shackleford FCA

Tony entered the profession in 1985 with Farmiloes Chartered Accountants, based in Birmingham. He joined Ernst & Young in 1988, working on accounts, audit and tax matters for a wide range of clients. He then spent 8 years working in industry, gaining valuable experience from the other side of the fence, before joining Haslehursts in 1999. Tony is responsible for many of our specialist clients, such as FSA-regulated businesses and pension schemes. He is also highly skilled in helping clients to prepare forecasts whether for planning, control or finance-raising purposes. Tony's interests include football and classic cars (he has an old Rover which may, one day, be a classic).

Philippa Pearce FCCA

Philippa qualified with a small local practice based in Lichfield that she joined in 1989. After gaining considerable experience of general practice, she joined Haslehursts in January 2000. Philippa is responsible for a number of our corporate clients, and also specialises in personal taxation and payroll matters. She is also our Sage expert and will help to train clients in the use of Sage and other accounting packages. Philippa is a regular at the local gym and also enjoys pulling a pint and the odd bloke at her sister's pub.
