Meet the Team
Bill Haslehurst FCA
Bill set up the practice in 1980. He has an immense amount of experience having taken his articles in 1967 with Whinney Murray (now Ernst & Young), working in Birmingham, London and Saudi Arabia, before joining Thomson McLintock (now KPMG) in 1977. Bill is very much a hands-on general practitioner with considerable experience across all disciplines of the profession and a fantastic list of contacts to draw on. Bill is immersed in the local community and particularly enjoys networking at the local golf club, as well as being a lifelong Derby County football club supporter.
Tom Haslehurst FCA
Tom qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen in 1997, gaining extensive experience of accounting, audit and corporate tax matters. He then spent four years as a manager with KPMG Corporate Finance, advising large and small clients on buying and selling businesses and raising finance, before joining Haslehursts in 2002. As well as looking after clients' general accountancy, audit and tax needs, Tom is keen to help clients grow and become more profitable and can offer specialised corporate finance and financial due diligence services to help these goals to be achieved. Tom's extra-curricular interests include golf, football (again, Derby County) and spending time with his young family.
Andrew Haslehurst FCCA CTA ACA
Rew started off his career in accountancy with Haslehursts in 1997, before moving to Kidsons Impey where he qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2001. He gained great experience in accountancy, audit and tax and moved to specialise in corporate tax when Kidsons merged with Baker Tilly. He spent three years in London as a tax manager for Baker Tilly and qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 2005. Rew returned to Birmingham and Haslehursts in June 2006 and is now one of only a handful of Chartered Tax Advisers practicing in Sutton Coldfield. He also qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2011. Rew enjoys playing and watching football (yes, Derby County!), playing bass guitar, squash and also likes to make the most of his time with his young family.
Graham Cowley ATT
Prior to joining the practice in 1996, Graham was Senior Tax Manager at Deloitte and Touche in Birmingham where he had worked with a broad personal tax client base since 1963. Graham continues to deal with personal tax clients, ranging from one-man self-employed businesses to large partnerships and wealthy private clients. He has extensive knowledge of income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, estate planning, trust tax, trust administration and probate work. Graham was a keen footballer in his youth and still has a strong relationship with the Birmingham PFA, counting a number of professional footballers among his clients.
Philippa Pearce FCCA
Philippa qualified with a small local practice based in Lichfield that she joined in 1989. After gaining considerable experience of general practice, she joined Haslehursts in February 2000. Philippa is responsible for a number of our corporate clients, and also specialises in personal taxation and payroll matters. She is one of our Sage experts and will help to train clients in the use of Sage and other accounting packages. Philippa’s interests outside of work include travelling, cinema and reading.
Stuart Penfold
Stuart joined Haslehursts in October 2011 tasked with managing and growing the audit services of Haslehursts. His responsibilities include working closely with clients to ensure that Haslehursts deliver the best possible compliance and advisory services to them. Stuart qualified in 1998 and has spent the last 10 years working at Dains, where he was most recently Senior Audit Manager and was responsible for a significant portfolio of the firm’s larger clients. He has a strong commercial background and has experience advising companies with turnover ranging from £250k up to £60m across many industry sectors. Stuart is Treasurer for local children’s football club Coleshill United, which he helped to found, and the club is now represented by six age groups including his son's team. Stuart also plays for local over 35s football team Water Orton United. He is an Aston Villa season ticket holder and keen golfer.
Chris Cowley
Chris has over 30 years’ experience in the profession covering small and medium-sized practices. Before joining Haslehursts in 2008, he had 8 years experience with a large local firm of accountants as a senior audit supervisor managing various audits up to £25 million. Other skills include accounts preparation, pension accounts and audits, charities, in-house management accounts, VAT and various IT skills including proficiency in Sage. Outside work, Chris’ interests include clay pigeon shooting for which he has represented Warwickshire county.
Sally Marshall AAT
Sally began her accountancy career in 1997 at a small local firm before joining Haslehursts in 2000. She gained her AAT qualification in 2001 and has general responsibility for accounts and payroll including filing accounts and corporation tax returns. She is also a Sage expert. In her spare time, Sally enjoys going to the gym and watching cricket - she is the treasurer of Lichfield Cricket Club.
Michaela Davis FMAAT
Michaela has worked in general practice for over 25 years. Before joining Haslehursts she worked for Tomkinson Teal in Lichfield as a senior auditor / accountant having joined them from BDO Stoy Hayward. Michaela has experience in audit, accounts and management accounts preparation for a wide range of clients and has extensive knowledge of Sage. Michaela’s interests include supporting Wolverhampton Wanderers football club and she also enjoys keeping fit with regular spinning classes.
Heather Holt
Heather joined Haslehursts in June 2008 with a background in business administration, office management and accounts roles. Having always enjoyed finance-related work, Heather was keen to develop her career in this area and is now in her third year of part-time study for the ACCA qualification. As well as being an Aston Villa football club season ticket holder, Heather enjoys playing Renaissance and Baroque music on Viols and the Baroque flute.
Nicci Patstone AAT
Nicci began her accountancy career in 1992 at NEC Group where she worked in various roles from the NEC Finance team to Box Office at the NIA and Symphony Hall. She moved to PriceWaterhouseCoopers in 2000 where she worked in audit and gained her AAT qualification in November 2000. Nicci joined Haslehursts in 2003 working on payroll and accounts services. Nicci’s interests include jogging and she is a regular of the local Fun Run and has taken part in the Great North Run half marathon. She also enjoys supporting Aston Villa football club and is the mother of two lively boys.
Katie Horsley
Katie began her accountancy degree after leaving college in January 2009 and gained her initial experience in bookkeeping and accounts administration in industry before moving to Haslehursts in July 2010. She is in her second year of study for the AAT qualification. Outside work, Katie is a dance instructor and teaches modern, jazz, tap and ballet to 11-14 year olds. Her football team of choice is West Bromwich Albion.
Dawn Moss
Dawn began working in accountancy over 30 years ago. She spent 20 years at Deloitte in Birmingham, where she worked for various departmental partners, including the Senior Partner until he retired in 1994. Dawn joined Haslehursts in 1997 as a secretary and receptionist. Outside of work, Dawn’s interests include cooking, gardening and walking her border collie, Sonny.
Gail Turner
Gail has worked in PA, secretarial and administrative roles for over 20 years across various sectors including hospitality and financial services, mainly in Birmingham city centre. Gail joined Haslehursts in 2009 as a secretary and receptionist. Gail’s interests include travel (restricted to camping in Devon these days rather than round-the-world trips!), eating out, and she enjoys reading and is a member of a local book club. Gail is also kept busy by her two growing boys and supports Aston Villa football club.
